What is Layers in Animation Software?
One portion of a complex image that can be manipulated independently of all other parts of the file. To understand this layer deeply let take a look at different types of layers and use of layers in animation software programs with its benefits.
Different Types of Layers
1. Adjustment Layer
Adjustment layer allows you to create a transparent layer where you can able to make direct changes to photograph without making any changes in the original.
2. Duplicate Layer
This layer will create a duplicate copy of the layer of which you are working on. This sharpens the image you are currently working on.
3. Text Layer
This layer allows you to add text to the image. You can change the color, font, size and shape of the text.

Use of Layers in Animation Software Programs
A layers in animation software is referred to the different levels on which you place your animations, drawing and objects. The layers are stacked one on top of another. Every layer contains its own effects and animation, which can be worked on and changed independently of the other layers. Combine all the layers together for the complete animation and graphic design.
Layers are prevalent in all the high-end graphic designs and animation software programs and free open-source software. You will find layers in Photoshop, Illustrator, and many of Adobe’s other graphics programs. They are there in Animate, Maya, Poser, and open-source Blender. You’d be hard-pressed to find a decent graphic design and animation software program that doesn’t offer layering capability.

In many cases when you open a new file in animation software, it only shows the base layer of the file. You could do all the work there, but you would end up with a flat file that is tricky to edit and work with. When you add layers of the base layer on top as you work, you expand the possibilities of what you can do with animation software. A single layer in adobe photoshop, for example, can have up to a hundred of settings most of which are previewed in combination with the other layers without changing it.

Benefits of using Layers in Animations Software
Benefits of layering are constant and depend on exactly what you are trying to perform:
- In animation working with layers lets you composite animation scenes in a way that doesn’t require fitting everything together correctly in each frame.
- Layers give you freedom in editing and give you a way to keep objects from blending on one layer when you want them to be separate in others.
- Layers can be allowing you to change or rearrange the order in which objects are displayed, thus changing the composition of the scene.
- Individual layers can be on and off temporarily, which allows operators to focus on one specific part of a project at a time without the distraction of other layers.
- Apply transparency to an individual element of a file by setting it on a layer and applying the effect to only that on one layer. You will be able to see through the layers below.
- Try out some special effects with an adjustment layer that previews the effects on the layers beneath it without changing it.
